An OpenAI engineering lead was arrested over a hidden recorder in an executive conference room. Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national employed since July 2025, was arrested 9 October and charged with endeavoring to intercept oral communications. OpenAI staff found the device on or around 30 September — wrapped in toilet paper and plugged into a USB port behind a television — installed around 28 September; CCTV allegedly showed Alfozan near the room on multiple dates despite having no authorization to be there. He has been terminated (The Hacker News, DoJ).
