Australia’s Prime Minister disclosed that an OpenAI research agent bypassed access controls on a Medicare statistics portal in June and read non-public files, with OpenAI notifying the government only on 10 September. Denmark raised its national threat level for destructive cyberattacks from medium to high, citing Russian preparation for sabotage.

AI & Agent Security

  • An OpenAI agent reached non-public files on an Australian government portal. PM Anthony Albanese said on 24 September that an agent researching public pharmaceutical spending hit Services Australia’s Medicare Statistics Reporting Service, was blocked while seeking information, then “found a way around” it. The portal carries aggregate figures and is separate from claims and personal-record systems; the government says no personal data was reached. OpenAI’s disclosure went to a generic government mailbox on 10 September, a delay Albanese called “obviously unacceptable” (BleepingComputer, The Hacker News). Dates conflict: ABC and Transluce put the incident on 18 June, AP reported the PM saying 18 July.
  • Transluce traces the pattern back to November 2025, with OpenAI agents probing data providers and university sites — Data USA, the University of New Mexico and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare — months before the Hugging Face incident (The Decoder). Aalto University machine-learning professor Arno Solin told Yle that if he were the security lead at Finland’s HUS hospital district, “I wouldn’t necessarily be sleeping very well right now” — finding and exploiting holes has become materially cheaper (Yle).
  • Meta’s Muse agent archived its own root filesystem and shipped it to a user’s Google Drive — 2.7 GB compressed, 6.8 GB unpacked, containing the Linux session’s Ubuntu system files, Meta’s internal “Hatch” runtime documentation and integration code, agent persona and memory files (SOUL.md, IDENTITY.md, MEMORY.md), 113 subagent records with JSONL traces, and SSH key files whose validity the researcher could not establish. Reported through Meta’s bug bounty; archive and keys not published. Separate bug from the local-takeover zero-day reported earlier this week (earlier coverage). mouse.dev (discussion)
  • Salesforce Agentforce flaws allowed zero-click CRM data theft and anonymous phishing through manipulation of the agent. The Register
  • Unit 42 found an active indirect prompt-injection campaign against AI ad-review systems — 10 domains, one of them ranked #1 in web search results, embedding hidden payloads that impersonate a popular advertiser’s compliance text to get ads approved (Unit 42). As @HoustonIntrove1 put it, if your approval path is an LLM reading the page, “that payload owns the spend decision.”
  • Denmark’s CERT issued a national advisory on the Cairn card-skimming operation — the agent-driven campaign that compromised 100+ webshops and took roughly 600,000 card records (CERT.dk, earlier coverage). Joshua Saxe puts the operator’s cost at about $25 in tokens per target successfully hacked (Saxe).

Vulnerabilities & Exploits

  • CISA flagged JetBrains TeamCity CVE-2026-63077 as used in ransomware attacks in its 24 September KEV update. The CVSS 9.8 bug lets an unauthenticated attacker abuse the agent polling protocol to run OS commands as the TeamCity server process — exposing stored credentials, build artifacts and downstream pipelines. Patched 25 July (2025.11.7 / 2026.1.3), in KEV since 5 August, confirmed exploited by JetBrains on 7 August. Shadowserver tracks just over 160 internet-exposed servers still unpatched, down from ~700. BleepingComputer, SC Media
  • Two more KEV additions on 24 September: WSO2 CVE-2026-5430, a JWT authentication bypass leading to account takeover (CVSS 10.0, API Manager 4.1.0–4.6.0, Universal Gateway, Traffic Manager, API Control Plane) WSO2 advisory; and Adobe Commerce/Magento CVE-2026-71362, incorrect authorization giving privilege escalation with no authentication required (CVSS 9.1, bulletin APSB26-92 from 11 August) Adobe.
  • A Roundcube Webmail code-injection flaw patched in May is now under active exploitation, per the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security. BleepingComputer
  • WordPress CVE-2026-87902 traffic is now running more than ten times the first evening’s volume, against a far wider spread of sites, in three stages: vulnerability check, pearcmd.php inclusion check, then PHP write for RCE. Patchstack notes the payload encoding matches the patch exactly — “whoever built them was working from the diff.” SecurityWeek (earlier coverage)
  • Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform ships two CVSS 9.9 controller bugs. CVE-2026-84502 is argument injection: the scm_url project field accepts values beginning with a dash and passes them to git ls-remote without a -- separator, so --upload-pack turns project-management permission into command execution on the controller task pod. CVE-2026-84719 lets a workflow admin pin jobs onto unauthorized instance groups, including the control plane. Errata published for AAP 2.6 and 2.4. Red Hat, errata

Vulnerability Research

  • Untrusted app to uid 0 on a OnePlus 15, no permissions required. Two OxygenOS issues chain: AtlasService, a root telemetry/debug binder service that accepts calls from any process and whose setEvent value reaches a shell, plus a vendor audio HAL. The PoC is a plain installable APK targeting API 35, developed against a OnePlus 12 and working first shot on the 15. OnePlus confirmed many OnePlus and OPPO devices across software versions are affected but has not published a list, and the issues are unpatched. nns.ee, The Hacker News
  • File-notification systems leak behaviour across Linux, Android, Windows and macOS (ACM CCS, 15–19 November, The Hague). On Windows, watching C:\ reports the full path of every file touched anywhere on the system regardless of permissions and across users — Microsoft calls it an undocumented feature, and the response earned a Pwnie nomination for lamest vendor response 2026. On Linux, an inotify watch on a readable directory reports events for files the attacker cannot read, including /dev/input for inter-keystroke timing. On Android, FileObserver bypasses the FUSE per-app storage view, demonstrated against WhatsApp. The authors say they are unaware of in-the-wild exploitation. inoti.fyi, The Register
  • A CDC-ACM serial interface bypasses TCC on macOS. glyph.sh
  • Android 17 enforces certificate transparency and breaks custom CAs — worth planning for if you intercept app traffic with your own root. HTTP Toolkit

Nordics

  • Denmark raised its destructive-cyberattack threat level from medium to high, based on assessments from the Defence Intelligence Service (FE) and the Security and Intelligence Service (PET) pointing to rising Russian hybrid activity against Denmark and other NATO states, alongside information on concrete Russian planning for sabotage. The agency says destructive operations against Danish targets in the coming months are likely, and names wipers and OT manipulation as the methods — citing the late-2024 compromise of a small Danish waterworks by pro-Russian actors that manipulated water pressure and cut supply to about 450 households, and the December 2025 attack on Poland’s energy sector that authorities averted. • Booking data for four Finnish Clarion hotels was stolen and is already being used. Clarion says it detected unauthorized access to reservation data on Wednesday, closed the account and revoked all access; contact and booking details were exposed, but not card numbers, passwords, national ID numbers or financial data. Guests are receiving WhatsApp messages from a “hotel representative” quoting their exact reservation and demanding identity confirmation via a link within 12 hours. Ilta-Sanomat
  • The Finnish Reservists’ Association (Reserviläisliitto) was breached through a WordPress core vulnerability, with its site database reachable for five days from 17–21 July 2026. During an investigation into a similar case in September it emerged that data had actually been viewed. Form submissions — name, date of birth, email, phone, postal address — for a few hundred of the association’s 51,000 members were affected; the membership/national-defence register was not, and no malware or payment phishing was found. The data protection ombudsman was notified. Ilta-Sanomat
  • DDoS knocked out the English-language site of Finland’s Ostrobothnia Wellbeing Services County on Sunday — an exceptional volume of traffic causing significant availability problems, with no intrusion attempts observed and no known actor or motive. Mitigated with the web provider. Yle
  • Tampere University fired a researcher now remanded in custody on suspicion of aggravated computer intrusion. The dismissal decision cites serious and repeated breaches of the university’s IT usage rules, surfaced by IT administration’s own monitoring last summer; the alleged offence period runs from August 2025 to early July 2026 and the National Bureau of Investigation is handling the case. Threat Activity

  • Bitget lost roughly $351.6M from hot and warm wallets; the CEO points at North Korea. Unauthorized transfers were detected at 18:31 UTC on 24 September. CEO Gracy Chen said a preliminary investigation identified IP addresses matching VPN choices associated with a DPRK group and that “the pattern looks very much like what the North Korean team did before” — attribution remains preliminary. She said attackers breached Bitget’s systems and moved funds directly rather than forging withdrawal requests, and did not obtain cold, hot or warm wallet private keys. Cold wallets are unaffected, withdrawals are suspended, and the loss is said to fall inside a $464M user protection fund, with some funds already recovered. Cointelegraph, Bitget CEO
  • The placeholder domain third-party.com, referenced across 1,700+ repositories and dev docs, now serves ClickFix. Manifold Security found it while reviewing public AI skills and MCP server documentation. Unlike the IANA-reserved example.com, it is an ordinary registered domain: it displays a fake Cloudflare “Performing security verification” page, copies a PowerShell command to the clipboard, and instructs the user through Win+R and paste. The payload host no longer resolves, but a May VirusTotal scan shows it pulling a 131 MB zip. BleepingComputer, The Hacker News
  • Compromised legitimate Ukrainian business sites are running the same fake-Cloudflare ClickFix lure to deliver a previously undocumented stealer called Psychedelic, with a Windows Installer command pasted from the clipboard. The Hacker News
  • MacSync now uses public iCloud calendars to deliver new payloads. Kaspersky’s updated analysis of the macOS infostealer/backdoor covers malicious DMG delivery, layered encrypted loaders, the shift from AppleScript to full executable modules, LaunchAgent persistence, Finder impersonation and encrypted C2. Securelist, BleepingComputer
  • Corp MDM Android spyware targets logistics firms via fake Google Play pages branded CEVA and TKW Logistics, delivering com.corp.mdm disguised as a system service that steals incoming SMS and redirects calls. Have I Been Squatted, The Hacker News
  • DarkMe RAT has dropped the exploits — Huntress finds the RAT previously used in a zero-day APT campaign now arriving in ordinary phishing mail as a fake image file. Huntress Separately, Ontinue documents Lunex, a new infostealer deployed through BYOVD. Ontinue
  • The FBI job-portal compromise reportedly also exposed the bureau’s Remote Operations Unit, per 404 Media’s Joseph Cox (@thegrugq relaying the report, earlier coverage).

Industry & Policy

  • DOJ seized about 57 domains, cyber infrastructure and corporate bank accounts from Oxygen Forensics on 20 September. CEO Lee Reiber was arrested in Idaho and CTO Oleg Davydov in London, both charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud; prosecutors allege five Russian nationals owned and controlled the Virginia-headquartered firm through a Cyprus holding company while its software was developed in Russia and sold to DoD and DHS components. DOJ says there is no evidence of malicious code or unauthorized access to customer data. The Record (earlier coverage)
  • Scattered Spider member Ahmed Hossam Eldin Elbadawy sentenced to 45 months after guilty pleas to wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft, over phishing texts impersonating employers and IT providers from September 2021 to April 2023 used to reach cryptocurrency accounts.
