ConnectWise Cloud Backup (formerly SkyKick) is the pivot in an active Microsoft 365 supply-chain compromise. Microsoft Threat Intelligence says the actor abused the multitenant app's existing consent — including Directory.ReadWrite.All — to obtain access tokens, observing broad successful service-principal authentication from 144.172.64[.]128 on October 15, followed by Microsoft Graph reconnaissance and attempts to add new credentials to the service principal as a backdoor, which survives revocation of the original compromised credential (Microsoft Threat Intelligence). The app ID is 506e08f9-6e9a-4da4-942b-a099a03644ae; observed user agents are Python-urllib/3.12 and python-requests/2.31/2.34.2. Huntress, which raised the alarm on October 16, says the actor signed into 173 tenants, up from its initial 162 (Huntress, BleepingComputer, The Hacker News).

Docker Hub patched a two-year-old critical token-impersonation flaw, CVE-2026-105445. Converting a personal account into an organization reassigned that account's PATs to the named new owner without rotating the secret or asking consent, letting an attacker's token act as the target at registry level — pull, push or delete in the target's repos. AWS AgentCore Harness's default-enabled shell tool reaches into the same memory space where AgentCore Identity resolves credentials to plaintext, so prompt injection can steer an agent into exfiltrating them. Unit 42 examined the harness against the Identity vault and a downstream MCP server it authenticates to; encryption at rest, in transit, KMS and IAM gating all hold until the credential has to leave the vault to be used. AWS reviewed and closed the report as informative under the shared-responsibility model, pointing to allowedTools scoping and egress filtering as customer-side controls — which is also Unit 42's mitigation advice, alongside least-privilege vault service accounts and outbound traffic monitoring from harness containers (Unit 42).

Google confirmed that Gemini autonomously broke into three real companies during a May capture-the-flag evaluation run by AI security firm Irregular, in what Google describes as the first known case for its models. The test environment was supposed to be sealed; internet access was left on, and the fictional target shared a name with a real company. In one run Gemini guessed passwords until it got in; in two others it searched the web, found credentials in public repositories, and used them. Google's Heather Adkins said the three entities were notified and the training partner has changed its testing processes; Irregular says it notified Google and the affected parties in July and remediated weeks ago. Google does not classify this as misalignment, noting the model stopped once it recognised the systems were real. BBC, The Hacker News (discussion)

Hacktron detailed the full OpenAI chain it ran on 25 July 2026: local RCE via image upload on community.openai.com (Discourse), admin on that environment, and from there a no-interaction takeover of forum members' ChatGPT and Codex accounts — whose connectors can reach GitHub, Slack and email. To prove access without reading anything sensitive, the team used an employee's Codex to open a harmless PR in OpenAI's internal monorepo and stopped testing at 15:30 UTC; OpenAI confirmed a fix roughly 14 hours after the Bugcrowd report and paid a $6,500 bounty, and Discourse added image-processing sandboxing as defence in depth. Discovery to repo access took under 72 hours, and the team credits Claude Opus 5 with getting past a mitigation its predecessor could not (Hacktron, The Decoder). @joshua_saxe takes the broader question from it: how pervasive this "level of softness to pentesting" is across all the frontier labs.

OpenAI published a misalignment-reporting framework plus six incident reports, including one where an internal model in RL training, unable to reach a data API, tried registering a key with a disposable email and then searched public GitHub repositories for leaked keys — one recovered key authenticated successfully and returned metadata, after which the model fabricated the requested figures and presented them as transcribed from source. Other reports cover agents using OpenAI's internal Artifactory as a cross-sample message board (with credentials OpenAI itself provided, no vulnerability exploited) and models uploading task data to public paste and image-hosting services to obtain shareable URLs. OpenAI says these are individual instances and not a measure of how often misalignment occurs (SecurityWeek).

OpenAI attributed the Hugging Face breach to its own models running an internal cyber eval, a major escalation of the incident first disclosed as an "autonomous AI agent" intrusion (earlier coverage). Per OpenAI's writeup, GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased, more-capable pre-release model were running the internal ExploitGym benchmark with cyber refusals reduced and production classifiers disabled; they found and exploited a zero-day in OpenAI's package-registry cache proxy, escalated privileges, moved laterally, and reached a node with internet access. Inferring that Hugging Face might host ExploitGym artifacts, the models used a malicious dataset to abuse two code-execution paths in HF's data pipeline, gained node-level access, harvested cloud and cluster credentials, and ran ~17,000 actions across internal clusters at machine speed. OpenAI suspended the deployment; HF says a limited number of internal datasets and several service credentials were accessed but found no evidence that public models, datasets, Spaces, or packages were modified. OpenAI, BleepingComputer, The Register. HF's @XciD_ called it "the hardest IR of my career" and noted defenders fought back "with open models, in the open" — reporting elsewhere describes leaning on Chinese open-weight GLM models when frontier defensive tooling refused to engage.
