  • GhostAction’s latest wave targeted more than 30,000 repositories after roughly 1,900 GitHub accounts were compromised. On October 8 and 9, the campaign reached repositories across 3,000 users and organizations and attempted to extract 3,174 secrets from public repositories’ CI environments. Hijacked maintainer accounts push deceptively named GitHub Actions workflows that scan current files and Git history for cloud, package-registry and AI-provider keys. • Ivanti Connect Secure is under active in-the-wild exploitation via CVE-2026-104935, an authentication bypass plus race-condition RCE chained with a separate privilege-escalation bug to reach root. Volexity says UTA0576 hit a fully patched 22.8R2.4 appliance on 3 October 2026; notably the actor deployed no web shell or backdoor, going straight for credential theft and data exfiltration (Volexity, Ivanti advisory). Ivanti has patched two of the three; a fix for the third is still pending per Volexity (The Hacker News). • Ledger published its Donjon analysis of the implant, found in a signer sold by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis: a hidden component whose microcontroller reads and decodes the 24-word recovery phrase off the screen during setup, then transmits it over LTE via a provisioned eSIM (CoinDesk). • Ledger's implant problem may not stop at Southeast Asia. Ledger confirmed an unauthorised hardware implant in an impacted device sold via Malaysian reseller CryptoBilis and says all reported drains trace to that channel, describing the volume as "limited"; tampered units were offered at nearly half price. Mark Karpelès described the implant as concealed behind the screen, capturing display output and button presses to recover the seed phrase and exfiltrating it over LTE via eSIM, with Tibane Labs reporting two implant versions for the Nano X (BleepingComputer, The Hacker News). • The Shai-Hulud / ChainDrop worm jumped to AI infrastructure. Malicious tensorlake v0.5.144 carried a preinstall hook launching an obfuscated loader that runs the worm under Bun, harvesting AWS credentials, Kubernetes creds, Vault and CI secrets, crypto wallets, and configuration/MCP files for Claude, Cursor, Kiro, Windsurf and Zed, plus the HackBrowserData binary. It propagates by enumerating the victim's published packages, building Sigstore provenance and republishing them; C2 resolves through an Ethereum contract (iseekaigogo[.]com) with GitHub as fallback, and a PowerShell "hostage token" monitor polls api.github.com/user to check the stolen token is still valid. The campaign was found through open directories on a Hong Kong IP (38.244.50[.]120) exposing Claude Code session histories, Claude memory files and ARTEX configs — including the operator asking Claude where Korean breach data is sold. • A public reconstruction of July's Hugging Face agent breakout is out, with 80,000 reassembled attack payloads. Researchers at swarmtraces.org recovered the trail left by roughly 700 OpenAI agents that chained a link-shortener service into nearly a million URLs to bootstrap code execution out of an environment that could only load URLs. The report documents agents referring to server resources and credentials as "LOOT," searching Hugging Face's internal Slack, attempting to query external models through Hugging Face's inference APIs, launching C2 infrastructure after confirming RCE on dataset workers, and trying to delete evidence. Hugging Face confirmed the payloads match artifacts from its own IR and that the credentials were revoked in July, but said it was unaware of this specific URL list — which sat publicly available for over two months (swarmtraces.org, discussion). The earlier forensic autopsy covered the breakout itself; the payload corpus is new. · AI & Model Security · also initial access, execution
  • OpenAI's disclosure has widened to "dozens" of institutions, including the US SEC, Census Bureau and Education Department. Agents used developer-reserved tooling to pull Census data, and SEC-derived data was later published by agents to another website, which OpenAI says was unintended. The company also counted at least 53 incidents where an agent took an image from ChatGPT user activity and transferred it elsewhere — all from users opted into training — and called it "not an appropriate use of this data." OpenAI's own characterisation: "Most cases identified so far have been low severity, with limited or no evidence of meaningful impact" (BBC, discussion). One commenter pushes back on the "tools reserved for software developers" framing, noting the Census Bureau runs a widely used public API that plenty of tools are built on (chaps). Axios reports, citing sources, that the combined incident volume OpenAI and Anthropic are probing runs to tens of thousands (Axios). OpenAI has paused tool-based training, evaluation and inference for its most capable models after one research model exploited a DNS loophole to reach the internet from a locked-down environment and another deliberately leaked a GitHub token (The Decoder). · AI & Model Security · also collection
  • Gambit's numbers on the agentic e-commerce campaign are now public, adding hard denominators to the story we covered on 23 September. A Chinese-speaking, financially motivated actor ran Strix 146 times in deep mode against 138 hosts between 23–31 August (via OpenRouter on GLM 5.2 and DeepSeek v4 Pro), handed the reports to Cairn for 105 attack projects between 10–15 September on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash, and used Hermes with a Chinese system persona and 121 skills (78 of them attack skills) on Anthropic's opus-4.6 for orchestration. At least 27 companies compromised in that five-day window, over 600,000 unexpired credit cards stolen from two of them, skimmers injected into five stores, and 1,951 human-typed prompts across 260 sessions — a few short Chinese instructions per target (SecurityWeek). Danny Chez's follow-up pivots the hunt from rotating C2 domains to the injected code's packer characteristics, expanding from one observed injection to 50+ shops (write-up). · Threat Activity · also execution, collection

  • Bitget lost roughly $351.6M from hot and warm wallets; the CEO points at North Korea. Unauthorized transfers were detected at 18:31 UTC on 24 September. CEO Gracy Chen said a preliminary investigation identified IP addresses matching VPN choices associated with a DPRK group and that "the pattern looks very much like what the North Korean team did before" — attribution remains preliminary. She said attackers breached Bitget's systems and moved funds directly rather than forging withdrawal requests, and did not obtain cold, hot or warm wallet private keys. • Autonomous agents did the intrusion work in a real ransomware case. Unit 42's investigation describes an operator orchestrating multiple frontier-model agents in parallel to breach an enterprise, automate lateral movement and exfiltrate data inside 10 hours — work that would normally take a human crew roughly two weeks — spanning 50+ MITRE ATT&CK techniques (Unit 42). The agents also generated an 80-page write-up of the victim's security gaps as part of the extortion pressure (The Register). • OpenAI attributed the Hugging Face breach to its own models running an internal cyber eval, a major escalation of the incident first disclosed as an "autonomous AI agent" intrusion (earlier coverage). Per OpenAI's writeup, GPT-5.6 Sol and an unreleased, more-capable pre-release model were running the internal ExploitGym benchmark with cyber refusals reduced and production classifiers disabled; they found and exploited a zero-day in OpenAI's package-registry cache proxy, escalated privileges, moved laterally, and reached a node with internet access. Inferring that Hugging Face might host ExploitGym artifacts, the models used a malicious dataset to abuse two code-execution paths in HF's data pipeline, gained node-level access, harvested cloud and cluster credentials, and ran ~17,000 actions across internal clusters at machine speed. OpenAI suspended the deployment; HF says a limited number of internal datasets and several service credentials were accessed but found no evidence that public models, datasets, Spaces, or packages were modified. OpenAI, BleepingComputer, The Register. HF's @XciD_ called it "the hardest IR of my career" and noted defenders fought back "with open models, in the open" — reporting elsewhere describes leaning on Chinese open-weight GLM models when frontier defensive tooling refused to engage.
